NOTE: 3D breaks down if you try to rotate the clip behind the back wall -- FIX: turn on the side walls and if you don't want or need them to show, set the opacity levels for each to 0.

Update 9/27/11:
Apple's upgrade of FCPX to 10.0.1 seems to have broken the onscreen controls for this effect. It will still work without them, just the convenience of them is gone (until Apple fixes the problem or I figure out a workaround.)

Update 8/23/11:
Download from: http://sight-creations.com/free_stuff/sc_glass3D.zip

Please see my last video (if you missed it) [Final Cut Pro X Keyframing Tips ...] about keyframing effects in FCPX -- it features this effect and will help you avoid some easy pitfalls and make keyframing this effect much easier.

  • First of all thanks for your free effects. Now...I can not see the on-screen controls...and I have the effect selected...thanks.

  • @franciscosunworld You're welcome! When Apple upgraded Motion to 5.0.1, some people started having this problem -- I did!!

I can't post a link in a comment, but if you recontruct this

    sight-creations(dot)com(slash)free_stuff(slash)sc_glass3Drepaired.zip

you can get the fixed version (let me know!)

Trash the old version before installing and replace it with this version. If it still doesn't work, let me know!!

  • How do you transfer the effects to FCP X?

  • @MOTOMIXERS Follow the instructions in the Read Me file and place the folder in:

    ~yourUserFolder/Movies/Motion Templates/Effects/CategoryName/

Restart FCPX. It will be available to you in the Effects browser—lower right corner of FCPX window. Click on the icon to the left of the camera icon (looks like a square over a filmstrip) to switch the the Effects section. There will be a list of Categories, find the category you saved Glass Shelf to, it will be in there. HTH

  • @MOTOMIXERS you go to Finder/Macintosh HD/(Type In) Motion Templates.localized/Effects

And make a new folder calling it SC_Final_X or something that you'll recognize in the effects window on FCP10

    ^_____^

    Hope this helps!
