Rank and File Labor Protest At Oakland AFL-CIO Meeting

Rank and file trade unionists rallied and demanded that there be a general strike to answer the epidemic of union busting and the attack on Wisconsin public workers. Workers were also angry that the ILWU Local 10 had been prevented from speaking at the April 4, 2011 rallies in Oakland and San Francisco despite the fact that the membership had taken off work in solidarity with the Wisconsin workers.

The union leaders tried to put the cork back in the bottle in Wisconsin. They could not let the workers move toward General Strike so they coralled the membership back into the Democratic party with the recall campaign. This manuver killed the momentum in Madison. Labor needs to turn the defensive action into an offence. We need start a rank and file rebellion, break with the Democrats & Republicans, build a General Strike and form a fighting workers party to win a workers' government!
