@stuffunee eye is the worst part..... you get hit with the top of the storm and bottom of storm on the west side and east side of the eye you only get hit once

I was working at a hospital during this storm. Watched transformers blow out across the city, making a bright green flash.

Ike got pretty bad in Beaumont area. this was taken before the lights even went out. We always get the damn night crawlers. Lol. Yes the Beaumont area didnt get the direct hit with this one. We were on the wet side of this one. Which oddly savd Galveston by directly hitting it. One thing for sure, IT SUCKED EVERYWHERE!!

the hurricane didn't hit Beaumont directly. I live in Clear Lake south of Houston and it was unbelievable there. 120mph winds.

the winds dont hit you as hard while youre surrounded by buildings...I thought my house was going to fly away.. lol

Working in media it is kind of a catch 22 with this sort of thing. The station made sure anyone with families or who wanted to leave did so and they were taken care of. However there were enough people dedicated to informing people who did leave of what kind of damage they would be returning to. I assure you we took every safty precatuion we could.
