A short clip from the 12th and last of Liapunov's set of Transcendental Etudes. The passage is effectively a brief cadenza.

  • Sounds good but where's the rest? There's not enough liapunov on youtube.

  • I've not posted the rest because, in retrospect, there are some things I really didn't like about my performance - I learnt a lot interpretatively when I discovered Liapunov's own piano roll recording sometime after I played this (even if piano rolls can be notoriously unreliable). I will try to re-record the piece sometime; meanwhile I'm learning no.5 of his TEs and hopefully I can post it in a couple of months.

  • And in any case, who wants to see 11 mins of hand-held cam footage? ;)

  • When it comes to rare music like this, I'd rather listen to it and go about my internet business. I think you should be easier on yourself because this sample alone shows that you are probably in the top 10% of pianists in the world. It's not the everyman who could play an etude at this level.

  • hey i've just started 2 months ago. when I can play something like that i'll upload it and i kindly ask for any tips and strategies in advance

  • Just uploaded a film of the Tempest etude. It should appear on my profile before long. I'd be interested in any thoughts you might have.

  • very impressive - powerfully virtuosic playing with focus and depth of tone. i'll check out more of your work.

  • Excellent. I've just started working on the Tempest Etude again. I'd half learned it before but never finished it, but it doesn't look quite so bad now. Also, the Nuit d'Ete. Hopefully I'll upload those myself oneday.
