Before you begin to field dress your deer (elk, moose, etc...), remember, it can be dangerous to approach any animal that has been shot. There are countless stories of hunters being hurt because the downed animal wasn't really dead yet. Check to make sure your prey is dead by touching the eye with the tip of your rifle or bow. If there is no reaction, you can be sure the animal is dead. In this segment, there are also some good tips for tag placement that will allow you to field dress your kill without losing or misplacing the tag.

  • This is the dumbest video I have ever seen, Ive seen so many idiots walk up to a deer or elk and poke it with their gun to check if its dead, only to accidentally discharge their weapon and wind up with a bloody mess.

  • @gmtillman8 Whoa! Sounds to me like you should find some new hunting partners!

  • @HunterEducation I dont hunt with these idiots, I do my best to separate myself from those with low brain capacity, seeing as how hunting is a sport with guns. Id rather not get killed by someone who doesnt know what their doing.

  • @gmtillman8 Just thought you must have been hunting with these guys since you've seen so many of them accidentally discharge their weapons. Were you just watching them through your spotting scope?

  • Juli3Juic3Box....if our ancient ancestors hadn't started eating meat their brains wouldn't have increased in size and versatility. Protein and fat!! Animals eat animals, do you condemn them? Humans are animals too. All of my pets eat some form of meat, including the ducks and chicks. No one is trying to force you to eat meat...leave us that do alone!

  • i just use my finger and get on the side where the legs arnt this dummy uses his rifle

  • my dad usually bring a long stick when hunting then pokes the eyelids if he is with some one he has the person hold the rifle and aim it at the appropraite place and has them fire if it is still alive to me that is the best way to go

  • My Hunting Partner V-Vet got cut bad when Deer jumped up hit him too stiches out on the hunt.

  • Nothing always dies with eyes wide open or shut. Never approach a wild animal you have wounded unless you are sure it is dead. Throwing rocks or a shot to the head with a handgun are good practice

  • Hello 240p.

  • You poked it in the eye! You are a real man now!

  • @Decimate92 youre an idiot. lol you mustve been raised in PETA appartment.

  • After I had a buck miss my "funsack" by a couple inches and hit a tree (after poking it), I decided to toss rocks at their head and see if they flinch from now on.

  • @Decimate92 Make this comment and then go back to eating your steak. I hunt and can assure you that these animals are treated 10000x better than chickens and pigs in factories. They leave them in cages so small they can't even move and juice them up with steroids and horrible food.
