Took my new Canon 7d out for a run recently, liked some of the footy and decided to put together a short clip to show some love to Ventura.
-----------------
Along the warm Southern California coast In the active, idyllic, beach community of Ventura, wake up and journey to Surfers' Point, part of Seaside Park, and one of the most popular coastal melting pots in this beach community. Chilled morning air brushes a faint mist across your face following endless sets of crashing waves. Small amounts of frost and salted dew begin to disappear from benches and railings as the sun pokes up from behind the hills.
Along the promenade, points of the coast-hugging walkway nestle right up to the water, leaving benches and cement walls to take varying degrees of wave, mist, and water-juggled rocks over the years. Beat down parts of the walkway lead to closures for repair in, but it's somehow part of the lifestyle, and never seems to be in too inconvenient of a spot therefore activities continue on.
The shoreline and promenade that make up, and extend South of Surfers' Point provide a deceptively large amount of space for so many activities no one could turn down a day in the sun. You could go jogging, biking, skating, surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing, tailgating, dog walking, picnicking, tanning, kite flying, reading, watch wildlife, photograph or film, play an instrument, do yoga or tai chi, or most importantly, watch the sunrise and sunset! In a place like this you can be environmentally, physically, mentally, and socially proactive all at once.
Closer towards the historic Ventura Pier are a few fancy eateries, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, bike and cart rentals, art shops & art, music, conservation, etc, shows. If your timing is right, you may also be lucky enough to catch the occasional promenade or beach wedding, fireworks display, or drum circle!
The topside of Surfers' Point welcomes countless amateur and professional surf competitions and tours bringing crowds in the hundreds allowing anyone nearby to channel their inner surfer. Windy days bring flocks of kite and windsurfers, adding a new layer of depth to the sky from a distance.
This brief look into a beloved stretch of coast shows how deep our connection to the ocean truly is, and that not even earthquakes, fires, or tsunamis will keep us beach going Californians away from Seaside Park and Surfers' Point and all of its attractions.
