you only assume mclaughlin didnt get credit. for all you know he could have got his cut and didnt want to be labeled on the album. you must dont think jill had anything to do with making this song hot. her vocals are incredible as well as the band that she has. some people just dont enjoy great music more than they love to gossip about it

Is McLaughlin credited at all on the CD? If we ever find ours (darn kids!) I'll check the liner notes...but I expect he wasn't given any credit. I see nothing on the Internet. Shame, 'cuz "Real Thing" is note-for-note the tune "You Know, You Know" from John McLaughlin's 1973 "The Inner Mounting Flame". He deserves to get paid for his work, and Jill should do the right thing.

Just as an aside... the entirety of this song is based upon the main theme from an amazing Mahavishnu Orchestra song from 1971... "You Know, You Know" is the next to last track on their "Inner Mounting Flame" album, which is one of the greatest, heaviest rock/jazz fusion records ever made.
It's nice to hear an M.O. tune recast in such a different context... hopefully some folks will be inspired to check them out...
