cosmiKPlatformer1
A C++ gaming engine/prototype written in Visual C++ and Allegro.

Here is just an update on how it is going. It's been around 2 months since I started learning C++ and Allegro and this is what I've accomplished so far.

I still need to work on polishing the game up. The game doesn't have any sounds as I've spent most of my time doing the coding and artwork. It also doesn't have a title screen and an end screen. The scoring system is pretty buggy as well :P My knowledge of C++ itself is what will hinder this game's growth... I'm doing my best to learn more and stay on top. With all that being said however.... It's a pretty damn good prototype if I do say so myself.

There have been numerous sites and people on the internet that have helped, I will do my best to mention as many of them as I can remember down below.

My background in programming is about 3 years of QBasic when I was 12+ :) I then stopped for a long time and started it up again soon. I have currently shifted my main focus to learning C# / XNA Game programing. I will post my updates on that eventually.

My 2 main goals are to make a very versatile, flexible and multi-featured 2D and 3D platforming projects. The 2D project is this :) But I want to eventually re-write it and port it to the XNA / C# language and continue to work on it there. I find the XNA Game studio sdk is an amazing tool with so many features and so much flexibility, and gives you access to the XBOX360!... cheers to Microsoft :] (except of course for charging us to write games for the XBOX... aren't you rich enough?). The 3D Platformer seems miles away as I am very dumb when it comes to 3D programming, but I'll get there eventually. cosmiKPlatformer 3D will be worked on eventually... but for now, polishing up cosmiKPlatformer1 2D and learning C# is are my main priorities.

I am interested in collaborating with other (game) programmers to discuss methods, ideas, and even work on projects together. I would even be interested in writing solid tutorials for others to learn game programming from scratch. If you are willing to commit to a goal, start small and create some wonderful stuff - let me know - I would be most interested... however, I am new, so bare with me. I am totally willing to learn form others, as well as pass on what I have learnt :)

Enjoi the video and subscribe ;)

  • i can't wait to start programming in c++!

  • dude where did u get ur tutorials from im just starting to learn c++ and the ones i've seen aint that great

  • c++ rules!

  • @zhajyandz There are plenty of tutorials online. My advice? Get some friends who are interested together. Learning something like this is much easier when you have people to discuss it with. Also, you really won't learn much by just following along to the tutorials by themselves. Start working on a project that uses some of the features you want to learn. My friends and I created a text-based adventure called Grind-a-Quest that ended up having over 12,000 lines of code. Just do something fun.

  • i want to learn c++ but i dunno where to start. what did you start with?
