Alice Springs musician Herman Marcic has won much rapt attention over the year for his stunning version of Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale. Before leaving Alice Springs with his wife, teacher and ABC radio presenter made this video for Alice Online, (http://www.aliceonline.com.au) demonstrating the parts that go to make up the whole of his acoustic interpretation of this classic song.

  • That was magnificent my friend just beautiful! I can tell you have been playing a long time! I would love to be half as good as you are! How long did it take you to get that song down?

  • @chinook2008 This isn't Herman's site, and he doesn't use the internet much. In fact, he's quite elusive. I'll pass on your question, but I would be thinking in terms of decades!

  • Great job! Can you please link some tabs or anything? :) It's really hard to see which tabs you play when everything is so fast..

  • @TheLanxian Sorry, Herman doesn't do tabs! Suggest you try pausing the video as it goes along.

  • Guess he's not teaching us to sing, Vinno. But he does sing with feeling!

  • Hi everyone. I'm sorry for not responding to your qs sooner. This clip was produced by a good friend of mine who wanted to video me playing A Whiter Shade of pale for YouTube. I'm tickled pink by the response! Will explain how it's done, in detail when I know a bit more about computers. I plan to make a step by step clip - so, please be patient. Will also make another clip of an easier tune to show how it's done. Using this style of playing, you can apply it to any song. Herman

  • Very nice guitar picking! Thanks for posting.

  • For those who don't know, Herman was the bass guitarist in a 60's band I created, The Creatures. He sang the best ever version of Maybelline. We used to get strings for his guitar from the centre of car speedo cables. Great sound. I registered the name in about 1963 and tried other musicians before I found the Beagle Boys in Mildura and took them to Sydney, coloured their hair and encouraged them to practice day and night. There are a couple of their singles on my profile.

  • VERY COOL.this is the biggest help and the best transpose
