This tutorial will show you how to install Android 2.2 FroYo on the Samsung Intercept. In my case this phone was running BasicRom 1.7 so we could not get the OTA update for it. This video was recorded in HD using my Samsung Epic 4G running TrulyEpic ROM FroYo 2.2.. Oh the irony.. I have several how to vids and demos for every DK28 2.2 Epic ROM out there. Please subscribe, like, and visit my other videos! Thank you.

This is fairly simple, so lets get started.

1) Download for SWupgrade: http://www6.sprint.com/downloads/samsung/executables/SamsungMoment_Update.exe

2) Download for LouZiffer's patch: http://www.mediafire.com/?090eshchk4kvb5d

3) Download for SPH-M910_MR_DF27_REL_156.tar.md5: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QFY3U6TQ

4) Download for Update.zip: http://02ee24b.netsolhost.com/downloads/crowder/update.zip

5) Download for USB drivers (install PDAnet): http://www.junefabrics.com/android/download.php

Ok, so you have all your files, lets get this going.

Install SWupdate

Install LouZiffer's Patch

Install PDAnet to get drivers for USB

Copy the Update.zip file to the root of your Intercept SD card

Copy the SPH-M910_MR_DF27_REL_156.tar.md5 file to: C:\Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SWupgrade\models\binary (if you run a 64 bit OS
copy to Program Files (x86)) **IF THERE ARE ANY FILES IN THE BINARY FOLDER DELETE IT / THEM 1ST OR YOU COULD BRICK YOUR INTERCEPT **

Now rename the SPH-M910_MR_DF27_REL_156.tar.md5 to SPH-M910_MR_DF27_REL_156.tar (just remove the .md5)

Run SWupgrade and follow the on-screen instructions to the end. (This will take several minutes)

Your phone will reboot (this will take several minutes)

Power off the phone

Hold down the Vol down, Talk, and Power buttons at the same time until you enter recovery mode (blue / yellow words wirh black background)

Now scroll with the volume rocker or the optical pad to apply update.zip from SD card.

Press home or push the optical pad to start the process. (This will take several minutes as well)

Congrats!! You're done!! Enjoy 2.2!!!

  • Even though I have a VM Intercept, I am going to wait for the official update, supposedly around March 25. Official Froyo will be better, apps2sd and my FIRST taste of FROYO here I come! (I did play with 2.3 on the Nexus S @ Best Buy, can't wait (if they do) eventually put 2.3 on the Intercept. That will help ALOT. Thumbs up if you agree!!!

  • I can't go to the swupgrade download link

  • I can't go to the deadheads download link

  • @leinto5 looked into it and turns out simply uninstalling and reinstalling SWupdate and the patch worked for me (for anyone else that encounters this problem there you go... that method is what worked for me.)

  • got a quick question and hopefully get an even faster answer (since i'm to concerned to doing anything for it to end up bricked) ok i did everything to the letter (to my knowledge) and i'm at the part of the SWupgrade were it's suppose to start software download... well when i press on the button it said as a reply "cannot open bin file"...

what am i suppose to do?

  • Great video man, I've rooted/flashed many phones and somehow still ended up bricking this intercept I got as part of a barter/trade for flashing an Evo to MetroPCS. Your video definitely got me going in the right direction and I successfully unbricked it. Thanks for the help!

  • how to root my samsung intercept?

  • Great I bricked my Intercept Using another video and you just saved my phone... And for those who Bricked ur phone just make sure like he said in the vid you delete that certain file n Binary and rename the file u put in... Great Job

  • Been working great for me since the update, switched to Verizon though and got a Droid X... been trying to sell my intercept but just wondering if anyone has found a way to get back on to VM baseband because this update switched VM phone baseband to a sprint baseband. Just curious, if not I know im out about a phone to sell (that works at least) and will have to sell for parts. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
