such concepts as constructing plural words and verb tenses IN YOUR NATIVE FUCKING LANGUAGE, what in god's name makes you think people would see you as being intelligent? The purpose of synonyms is to keep language from being boring. The argument you tried advancing reeks of laziness and is exactly what..."anti-anti-intellectual
s" are talking about! You say "I can't understand that, talk to my level" when you should say "I don't understand that, I'm going to educate myself so that I do." -
What does make you smart is reading...a lost fucking art nowadays. You don't have to memorize the dictionary, just read a fucking book and your vocabulary will NATURALLY progress and develop. That's why people who are well-spoken seem (and most often actually are) smart: they have read a lot and not just on their subject of interest. By the way vocabulary is only one aspect of this topic, the more relevant I think is proper grammar (you are a SHINING example of this). If you can't understand...

Well, in science, Latin is used in order for everyone to understand each other no matter the native language. And the whole, "having synonyms just confuses people" argument is akin to Newspeak in 1984. The fewer words we have, the less people can think! While I do understand your point of view, saying that lowly, uneducated people shouldn't try to expand their vocabulary is just silly. Status quo is not always god. Some people just have extended vocabularies. They're not being elitist snobs.

I just believe religion promotes anti-intellectualism among all men. Once Human race gets rid of these fairly tales we will become free of ignorance. This is coming from a black man.

actually people seem to love preachers more than teachers and that is the sad part.

Most of the people on youtube who use big words don't actually know what they mean.
And I agree with "pmarie2003". What video are you referring to?

YES, a large vocabulary CAN be used in deceptive ways, but it is not always the case that someone speaking with an extensive vocabulary seeks to confuse the listener for devious purposes. Increasing my vocabulary has increased my ability to comprehend literature and speakers in everyday life. It allows one ACCESS to those different fields of knowledge you were talking of. It enables me to ASSESS concepts in finer distinction and detail. Also, there is a certain beauty and art in using it. Peace

What video are you referring to? I never noticed the Amazing Atheist used "big words."

Man, I disagree with so much here.
Though one question comes to mind, how would you explain the chemical composition of the atmosphere/stuff air is made of, to a nomadic tribesman?
Right on..brotabush...
