Runa Laila - Dil Dharkay 1970 - Live
******************************

Runa Laila was ranked as the third best female singer in Pakistan (after Madam Noor Jehan and Mala). She was Bengali origin and born in Karachi, where she started her singing career from TV programs.

She was introduced in film Ham Dono in 1966 by Nashaad and her first song Un ki nazron se mohabbat ka jo pegham mila was a superhit song.
She was a darling of the Karachi media and was promoted very efficiently against Madam Noor Jehans dominance.

Runa Laila reached the peak of her film career when great musician Nisar Bazmi composed some super hit songs for her in films like Aasra, Anjuman, Tehzeeb, Anmol and Umrao Jan Ada.
Runa Laila also gained successes in Punjabi film music and sung

some superhit songs as:

Mahiya we, Bangla pawa de eithe
(Film: Jagg Beeti (1968), music: Chishti)
- Zara thehar ja we chori chori jan waleyo
(Film: Yamla Jutt (1969), music M. Ashraf)
- Leylpurun mangwaya, Jhumka Chanda da..
(Film: Bhole Shah 1970, music: Chishti)
- Do dil ik duje kolun door ho geye
(Film: Zaildar (1972, music Chishti)

Runa Laila left Pakistan in 1974 but she will be remembered as a big Pakistani female singer.

Runa Laila had an elder sister Deena Laila and at the starting of their career in singing in mid 60s, both sisters used to sing almost together in functions and stage and also some song they sang for PTV.

Deena Laila could not get the same fame as Runa Laila and died in early days of her marriage with Amin Fahim (PPP Politician), leaving a son behind.Dina Laila died on December 27, 1976.

  • w a song yar , the drum is awsum in this song n Runa Laila sang it very well....... Love from Pakistan...........

  • runa laila is a great singer but please do not compare her to noor jahan...noor jahan is a legend with songs going over 40 years......noor jahan was a actress, singer in urdu, hindu and punjabi songs...just see the super hits she sang then you will appreciate her class

  • @no1bangladeshi

Yes of course runa laila is best singer. But we should not create hate on you tube. We pakistani still love bangladesh because it was part of our country and a muslim country. Long live bangladesh and long live pakistan

  • @69sakibkhan I AM A BENGALI. I AGREE

  • @Aamie352008 This is another point that Madam has not maintain her popularity and memorable songs and she sang with only few talented composers in her last age..whereas lata, roona, asha has musicians like A.R Rehman,R.D.Burman,Laxmikant pyarelal etc but Pakistan has also great legend musicians such as Khwaja Khurshid Anwar,Rashid atre,Nisar bazmi,M.Ashraf,Sohail rana etc..

  • @Aamie352008 please do not make comparison between Madam Noor Jahan and Roona laila jee..they both are fantastic and genuine singers but however Madam Noor jahan was more good singer because Lata jee,Asha jee,Sir Mehdi Hassan,Roona laila highly praised her..

  • beautifuil

  • Runa Laila is a wonderful singer of present and of past. However those who are making comparisons between her and Noor Jahan, let me suggest that you ask this from Runa Laila herself.

As far as languages are concerned, Noor Jahan sang in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi languages. However, number of languages on knows or can sing is not the criteria
