This is my tribute to Laurent Fignon a great Champion and 2 time winner of the Tour de France who passed away from cancer August 31, 2010. Mon hommage à Laurent Fignon un grand champion qui est décédé d'un cancer le 31 août 2010

Laurent Fignon will be buried Fridat September 3, 2010 at Père Lachaise cemetary. Laurent Fignon sera enterré le vendredi 3 septembre au Cimetière Père Lachaise.

I worked the Tour in 1989 and was on the finish line right next to Fignon when he collapsed after losing the time trial to Greg Lemond that year. The only time that the last stage of the Tour de France used a time trial on the last stage.

  • We miss you Laurent

  • very beautiful hommage, thanks

  • @fjure2 thank you for watching

  • He was a wonderfully honest, intelligent and talented man who gave more to the sport then he recieved. He deserves his place in cycling heaven amongst the greats............a man who inspired millions and will continue to.

I was amazed at his courage to continue on with the commentary on French television only last month while in the final weeks of his battle with cancer. He didn't complain or ask for attention.

He went out a warrior and a champion.

au revoir à une grande human !

  • @bonejure

And commenting the last Tour de France with the tumor in his throat. Maybe knowing it was his last. Always such insightful commentary in such terms that we could understand. But when you love the velo, it's for ever. I have nothing but respect for this man. I'm just sorry that he had to go so soon. I think on the vuelta today there was a special tribute at the start of the race.

    e squisita...ciao Campione

  • I dicovered cycling this year. I've read Lance's books, watched the tour and bought myself a road bike. I'm reading Laurent's autobiography at the moment. I found out he was dead about 2 minutes ago...

  • Song name anybody?

  • Without villains you cannot have heroes, fignon was always cast at the villain and lemond the hero. I have to admit that I was always a fan of lemond, but it was fignon that got me into cycling in 83 and it's still in the blood. But I have just finished reading fignon book and all he wanted was to ride his bike, without him you wouldn't have the battles with lemond, hinault, and guimard!! Some posted a comment a couple of months back that they had a system u jersey, I got lemond's 89 jersey han

  • @gopconservative78 let me guess, are you fat? oh sorry, useless question, everyone in your country is fat... cheers...

  • One of my hero's from the cycling 80's.... eternal tail winds my friend, rest in peace.

  • @EnglishforJapanese1 your welcome.

  • @sprintbass

We miss him this year. Thanks for your comment
