MUGEN Battles EX #1 - Rouga Zanma (me) vs Ren Idagawa

Yes, you read the title right: MUGEN Battles EX.

"What the hell is a 'MUGEN Battles EX'?"
This is a sneak peek at something that I'll be starting in the near future.

The EX series will be just like the regular MUGEN Battles except for one key difference: The EX series' battles will be requested matches from you, the viewer!
Normal matches, team matches, hell, even some silly matches...your wish is my command!

I'll be doing these along with the regular MUGEN Battles, so that series isn't going to be ending any time soon.

I don't have the rules ironed out just yet, so I ask you to hold your requests for a little longer (I know there are a couple of you out there...), but rest assured, I'll get this ball rollin' soon.


The first battle in the EX series is a simple match request from a friend. Nothin' too fancy; just a good old-fashioned fight.

*Best out of three rounds
*Successfully land Rouga's Big Bang Break in at least one round and win that same round
*Stage has to be desolate

Turtles ahoy!

AI-patched Ren is one hell of a blocker. If I wasn't crazy, I could swear he blocked EVERY ATTACK I shot his way if Ren himself wasn't trying to attack. Dude's like a goddamn fortress...
It's really hard to get in and actually land a hit on him due to the way the AI plays. At a distance, Ren will lob all kinds of crap your way all day, and if he hits you with something, he'll rush in to combo/super grab you to death. If you're up close, he'll just block everything you try to do and combo you back the second you're done. Wanna throw him? LOL NOPE INSTA-COMBO IN YOUR FACE

Offense-wise, Ren was one of the best in BBB, so it's not much of a surprise that he's pretty vicious in MUGEN, too.
His main weapon, like I mentioned earlier, is his junk-throwing special move. Ren takes some random stuff out of his jacket and throws it into the air, each item having different effects. From bouncing soda cans to three-hit molotovs, this attack will annoy you to no end. If timed right, Ren can also swat the stuff with his stick, sending it flying at a high speed and making it even harder to dodge. Keepaway to the max.

His command grab super is especially deadly. If you manage to get in close range to Ren, he can pull this off and eat a good 20%-25% of your life, and it comes out so fast you barely have time to react. If he's got enough power, he can follow it up with an extra attack that takes away ANOTHER 25% health.
Did I mention it's also unblockable?

AI-patched Ren is quite the monster, but he can be dealt with if you catch him while he's throwing stuff around. He's wide open at that point.

You know... have yourself fight a computer

Do you use arcade mode or something?

@xercespriest You go into Watch Mode, pick your characters, and when the battle starts, you hit Ctrl+F1. This gives you control of player 1.

Oh yeah, forgot a couple of things...

His standing B and crouching C are the only jump cancellable attacks. The former is more useful as it's unblockable when up against air guard.

Oh, and don't charge in without a decent attack option. Rouga is rather sluggish, befitting his power role in BBB.

My only tip is to not use the QCB+B if you nail the opponent while they're in mid-air, or off a trip with the QCB+A.

Also, the conditions were fulfilled quite nicely.
