Patrick Dempsey was a neurosurgeon. He was successful, good-looking, and he was happy, but most of all he had a big heart. Although he was a single dad, Patrick loved his daughter Taylor; he'd watched her grow up, always thinking she was the most perfect daughter in the whole world. He would do anything for her, and she was Daddy's Little Girl in every sense of the phrase.

So to have to pick up her life and move her from everything she'd ever known... it broke his heart seeing how much she'd cried that first night he'd told her the news. But there was nothing he could do.

When he was 24, Patrick met Taylor's mother, Jillian Fink. She'd seemed brilliant and beautiful, and according to his friends, she was out of his league. Jillian had boys chasing after her left and right, but Patrick didn't compete. He simply stood back and waited for her to come to him, and she did. Two years later, they were married. A year after that, Taylor was born. And then six years after their daughter's birth, Jillian left.

They never fought, because Patrick had loved her so much. Jillian wasn't exactly high maintenance, and he didn't have to bend over backwards to keep her happy, but it was needless to say that she was the one who was hurt less when their marriage dissolved.

He'd never expected her to leave. Just one day, things took a dramatic fall downhill, and it didn't matter how hard he tried, Patrick couldn't stop it. It broke his heart to lose Jillian; he'd loved her regardless of everything she put him through. He thought she'd felt the same, but after she walked away, he was just never too sure.

The only thing he was sure about was Taylor, at the time only six. When his wife had disappeared for a week, only leaving him with a note that said not to call the police, and not to worry, Patrick told himself he had to be strong for his little girl. On the seventh day of taking care of Taylor himself, he received divorce papers in the mail. Jillian never explained, and now he wasn't sure he ever wanted her to.

Seeing the papers, Patrick thought he'd never be whole again. But there was Taylor, who pulled him out of the hole his now ex-wife had created and made him see the world through optimistic eyes. She was the perfect daughter, and she'd changed his life even without trying.

Patrick had no intentions of telling her until her wedding day, but Taylor had saved him. She didn't ask about her mom much, and the neurosurgeon knew that time wore away memories. He knew that if he'd been Taylor's age, the image of Jillian's face would've begun to fade away from his mind if not for the help of photographs tucked away in seldom opened boxes. Sometimes life was funny that way, giving you something good and then taking it away from you in the blink of an eye. Cruel, but amusing if you looked at it the right way.


I know this was a short episode, but I wanted to give you all some background on Taylor/Patrick's lives, and why her mom isn't with them anymore. Was this a good episode? This is good episode because we get this infos. but really, I hope verything will be allright when Taylr and Joe meet. I mean i hope no KILLING and HURTING and DYING when she nd joe get together.

Have I told you that I am in love with your writing? Yes? Well here it is again. I am in love with your writing.

I loved this episode. I think it's really important for us to understand why Taylor and Patrick are they way that they are, what they've been through, etc.

I think that when Joe and Taylor meet, they should hit it off. Taylor could start forming feelings for him but she still has her boyfriend. That could scare her and she might shy away from him (even though I don't want that)
