Mixed feelings. I love Rex Smith and i love how he ended the song on that long note,BUT I liked Terrence Mann's version more. It felt like he was more torn and angry at Marguirite. But that is just my opinion. Anyway I love Rex Smith buut this not my favorite version of this song.

Its is Chauvelins realization that Marguerite will never love him and its basically just him being furious about that

Rex took this role and song to a level beyond those who came before or after.

I saw the show back in 2004. I was thankful to find this online. Do you have the other numbers too? Like the ones sung by Rachel York and the others by Doug Siles? I've met him a few times. He's really nice and very handsome.

@mmgringoire2 You mean you like Terrence Mann's cast recording version. His live version was flat and slurred and he opted not to sing the G at the end.

nice set!!!

I have to say, I have bot seen the show bu I have listened to both and have to say I prefer the original. In this one I expect Chauvelin to go out and spring some fantastic trap and actually catch the Pimpernel (I've read the book so I know that doesn't happen) The original had Chauvelin throwing a strop and I think that worked better

@mmgringoire2 Mann's live version is not like the recording. Just saying. He rarely did the high note and his diction was slurred and lazy.

where can I find Mann's version?

I like this... but I am with the others who said Terrence Mann's version was better... he sounds like he wants to just rip his heart out because it hurts for him to feel so much... same with his Falcon in the Dive. That being said, Rex King is a pretty damn cool Chauvelin.

I like this version better than Mann's (which I love and have on my iPod). This version has more raw emotion in it than Terrence Mann's. I think I like it more because it has that elusive quality called 'charisma'. This just speaks to me. But I listen to the other one more often.
