What's wrong with Russia from the Western point of view? After the collapse of the Soviet Union, many in the West thought that Russia would become a fully-fledged member of the family of Western democracies. The recent election in Russia showed that the country has gone it own way, away from a weak and destabilised state to a predictable democracy. But it still seems to fall short of Western standards. Why? What is it that the West doesn't like? Lord Robert Skidelsky will attempt to answer these and other questions on Spotlight.

  • Difference between our democracy and western is that our rusophobic policies aren't hidden from the masses, our elite is too stupid to mask the whole democratic show like americans do.

  • @dreamtime182 very true

  • @ainokainen you lobotomised nashi stooge, cant you see that russia would become so powerful by transitioning to being better at the wests own game by harnessing the collective intelect of the russian peoples decisions, rather than treating them like retarded children, you foolish thinker, russias power potential is untapped because the greater good of the greater number of people is based on majority of their decisions....russian people arnt stupid ....dont treat them as such!!!

  • I want to inform people. A seizure of Kursk region part of Russian Democratic party Yabloko have fulfilled. Moscows lieder Mitrokhin said that Kursks swindler Fedulov is to become new lieder of Kursks Yabloko. And old Kursks lieder Kuperman left party. Who want to help me to save Kursks Yabloko by money?

  • Russia: No independent justice system. No independent media. No fair elections. No opposition.

  • Russian democracy is an oxymoron. Russians don't need democracy, they need a father figure to tell them what to do. Only educated nations can and should choose their leaders. For the rest of the world it is better that their leaders are chosen for them. Like children, they will learn to love their appointed fathers.

  • Such nonsense, vile stage-managed pro-Kremlin propaganda. Skidelsky should be ashamed of himself for agreeing to do this interview, the interviewer is obviously slanted towards the Putin police-state. Why was there no mention of opposition demonstrators being beaten up in Russia, or the amount of journalists and human rights activists who've been murdered during Putin's reign? "Rather truculent," a polite description of Putin who is a brutal dictator who rules with impunity. RT is a sick joke!

  • With the poor quality of this video aside, it is very informative and quite comprehensive in its analysis of the current state of Russia and its relationship to the wider world, particularly the West.

Instead of NATO, the greatest threats to Russia exists within Russia itself (poverty, unemployment, economic underdevelopment, an ageing population, low fertility rates, etc). Ironically, Russia's problems could also be of concern to the West. Therefore, a weakened Russia is in nobody's interest.

  • Domestic Reforms in Energy (LOL) = privatize the oil and gas sector lol! Make the British investors happy lol! Remember people what might be good for a Russian, might be terrible for a German! And vice versa. Every nation has their skeletons.

  • America should stop telling Russia what to do! Russia has been through all sorts of thingings (good and bad) , and has more developed culture than States. Just let bygones be bygones!
