This an English "translation" of the Wir sind Helden song "Labyrinth" (meaning (surprise, surprise) 'labyrinth' or 'maze').
The reason why I've put the word 'translation' in quotation marks is that this is NOT a literal translation, because if this song were to be translated literally, it would make no sense at all because of all the puns. I have marked the puns with a * and you will find an explanation of the real German pun right under this text. These are all puns on idioms with body parts in them.

* (jetzt lieg ich dir in den Ohr - And now I'm laying on your ears)
- Laying on somebodys ears is a German phrase that refers to pestering/nagging someone. So, literally in this song, she's messing up his hair, slips and falls into his ear. Metaphorically, I interpret it as her saying she's just joking around with him and ends up pestering him.

** (Hab dir am Herzen gelegen - I lay on your heart)
- to have someone/thing laying on ones heart is like having something on your heart in English. Its a spin on having something on your mind and implies an emotional connection.

*** (Bin dir am Morgen drei Runden um den Bart gegangen - In the morning I went around your beard three times)
- Go around somebody's beard is the German phrase equivalent to Buttering up/Sweet-talking in English.

**** (zwei Stunden an deinen Lippen gehangen - was hanging from your lips for two hours)
- To hang from somebody's lips is the German phrase equivalent to Hanging on somebody's every word in English.

Thanks, DeutschlandsHelden for uploading this song and thanks to Cooper @ Quarter Life Crisis the explanations of the puns.

If you don't see any subtitles, then hold the cursor over the button with the arrow pointing upwards in the lower right corner of the video player. Now two new buttons should pop up. Click the one labelled "CC", and voilà! Subtitles all over the place!

  • Gute Arbeit, ist nicht leicht bei so einem Song!

PS: At 1:52, it's rather "I picked up myself again" or "I got a grip again" instead of "I trapped myself again".

  • @RSAdiemus Thanks for the correction. I have changed it to "I got a grip again". :)
