YoYoCheese6 is right. Basically, the hub room is only for quick warps between areas, and you have to find big switches to open then.
But your main objective is to explore the heck out of freaking _everything_ you can possibly find and get all the treasure. (And more importantly get those mirror thingies back, but you'll probably stumble across this while just exploring everything you find on a map or that looks notable.)
Basically, progress isn't that linear.

You probably shouldn't use missile in such small corridors... =3

I don't know. I've never played this game myself. I've watched another LP of it, though. Just pull a Pokemon Gold and use a walkthrough. Or don't. You're choice. V_V

Wait, I lied.
that is the main hub, but that boss was just a miniboss, you took a wrong turn.
When you head back to moonlight mansion, pause, and press select to see a map of where the real boss is.

Yeah, you did accomplish something.
The area you were sent back to was the main hub of the whole game.
You defeated one of the 7 bosses

-The hub room contains warps to all of the different levels. Press a big switch to open them. There are two big switches per level.
happy bday!

Heh, you DID get to one of the secret areas that took me ages to find out how to get to. Mostly because I didn't know missle could break those silver blocks.
And they aren't randomly generated, they actually fiddle around in the game world as well.
Hahahaha. Press up to lift those switchs.
The Kirby's kiss you when they come in, which heals you one blip.
and you did accomplish some stuff. You've got to explore all the rooms, if I recall, so yha.
