Three drum yarders are generally equipped with a skyline drum in addition to main and haulback. Carriage rides on skyline. Mainline is for pulling in and also provides extra line which is used to pull the load in and is clamped by carriage or released to reach the ground. Haul back drum is used to pull carriage out if deflection is insufficient to use gravity to pull carriage out. Rigging is very light compared to old growth Doug Fir in northwoods. See Self propelled carriage.

@SuperMaro84 Most use a yarder equipped with 2 or more cable winches built right in. Some yarders are built for logging, other times a crane is used (like a Linkbelt 98 lattice boom). . . And downhill yarding over in the States is usually a process of last resort. Best practice is to yard the logs from the bottom up. You have a very interesting carriage! Not sure how you're kicking the bull-prick out of the carriage without a stop on the skyline? Radio control?
