Acura RL in a snowstorm

For consumption of Acurazine. The March 7-8, 2008 snowstorm in Cleveland, OH provides a great test for SH-AWD and decent UHPAS tires on my 2006 RL. First part is the trip into downtown Cleveland on I-77 N, second is I-480 east on my way home after another foot of snow. Video quality is poor as it was filmed on my Treo--my good camera was broken at the time of filming.

I did realize that driving in the snow was such a big deal. It's snow thats all...your not driving in a mine field. Try driving in the U.P. of Michigan now thats real snow, not just a few flurries.

It's not a big deal in the RL, that's the whole point of the video. :) If I were in the U.P., I'd have snows on....or better yet, a truck with better ground clearance for my winter travels.

LOL. You are driving at 30 mph! In Finland we get a lot more snow and we speed more than double that speed in very similar snowy condition in total darkness! But yes, I know that in the States you don't have proper winter tires. People might call them winter tires but they are just a lame joke compared to special winter tires designed to arctic winters around Polar Circle.

LOL! Well, of course I'm driving slow, I'm on all-seasons and there's several inches on the roadway. :)

You're 100% right, with good winter tires (Hakkas or Nokians are what I'd use) this car would be unstoppable.

IT's really all about the little button on your dash, stability control. I once got overtaken by a 2005 Honda oddesy on a Colorado mountain pass. I probably could of kept up with the bugger but he was doing well in the snow. It puzzled me for a long time; how can a crappy front wheel drive mini van beat a might A8 quattro. Then it dawned on me, he had stability control. He'd never really loose it cos his electronic nanny would intervene and for 1999 my car is without stability control.

Oh hi sleeevy, fancy seeing you here too :) I don't know a whole lot about AWD, but indeed I've heard from multiple sources that SH-AWD works very well; I wouldn't doubt the German systems are better in snow, Germany is a colder, snowier climate to start with.

hahaha once again, fancy seeing u here whattheheck1000 (lol that wasn't creeperish in the slightest). My family's got several Audis and since we live in the Cleveland area like the vid poster, we're used to snowmobiling our way through some days. IMO, SH-AWD is more of a dry performance enhance. I think Audi and Benz's systems have an edge in snow performance, particularly Quattro with the torque-sensing Torsen system.

SH-AWD get you through this snow storm, yes? I plan to join AZ December 31, 2009 and would LOVE to drive an Acura in a few years (I'm 17). I was impressed with SH-AWD from the moment I read about it in Car and Driver.

this is 30 mph driving conditions, its people who drive too fast in the snow that cause all the accidents....good video, but you should be paying attention to just the road:)

I might be buying this car, i just dont like the bland design from the outside, but i love everything else about this car
