endgame by derrick jensen

Premise One: Civilization is not and can never be sustainable. This is especially true for industrial civilization.

***
so i am gonna start making these little video/audio interpretations for each of the twenty premises from vol.1 of derrick jensen's "endgame."
i haven't decided yet whether i will intend to tackle them in strict numerical order or just plod around to the ones i find most meaningful.

and the first one is easy.. this one surely ALL of the anti-civs would hold in common as true.

i was thinking it would be pretty cool to see anybody's interpretation of any of the endgame premises.. like my slide-show or live action or cut video.. maybe the fourth premise is happening right at this moment outside your front window and you have your camera handy..

anyhow.. it would be cool if a lot of people were doing this .. we would end up with a sort of a 'vin diagram' of each of the 20 premises.

ok, hope you like it, thanks for watching!

  • Yeah, this will make a great series! Keep it up man.

  • much thanks runny. i would like to continue.. but i need the feel of the next one, etc..

i wonder if anyone reads the sidebars.. i say over there that i hope to not be the only one doing this... that it would be possible to begin sort of a premise 'tree' .. maybe i should make a video that expresses this more directly. blah.

    thanks for watching.

  • i read the sidebars, but my experience is that most folks don't

i haven't forgotten this project...was just checking in to see what's up on your channel

i'm in transition right now and can't really make videos, but will look at this seriously when i get settled

    keep the faith

  • "transition"

me too. i guess like anything it comes and goes in waves. thanks for checking though.. hopefully soon.

  • i've watch three x's today... waiting for paint to dry on a job... short concise and more importantly emotionally charged to stop one in their tracks long enough to think & feel.

  • thats is quite a compliment bbb, thank you.

extracting that feel was what i was going for.. simplicity and contemplation.

already i am having trouble with premise two.. i need to lay off and let it come naturally. i would like for a similar simplicity on the others as well.

love what you do 'here' bbbleaver, thanks for the support!

  • @otacon451 I agree with you. He defines civilization so there is nothing positive about it. It is not civilization that is the problem, it is people. Our nature is uncontrollable, at least in every civilization that has existed, civilization becomes a system devoted to war competing with other civilizations. When and if this no longer becomes necessary war and destruction can go away. That may never happen, but I think it could happen, and I think DJ's premise is small-minded and foolish.

  • So, whatever exists after the "crash" cannot be called a civilization? So ... it will not have technological implements at all ... not metal objects, no computers, no cellphones, video cameras, pens, MP3 players, electric guitars ... this guy expect everyone to willingly be happy with rooting around in the mud like gorillas for all time - no Mars Rover, no Supercollider, no airplanes.

Of course, when some sub-group of survivors finds out how to create weapons the whole thing starts again.

  • my key criticism of dj is that he fails to distinguish between civilization and mass society at this point.

  • Nice work.

  • I just saw this tonite...I luv how you put this important message together.

The music is so fitting to the visuals.

'Eerie'...just how it does & should feel.

  • awesome idea. awesome book.

    awesome vid yo.
