Documentary about Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr Seuss. This is an episode from a series called 'Biography' (A&E Channel). It was first broadcast on 30 November 2003. (Thanks to imelizabeththefirst and LocoRosannuh for this information.)

This is not a particularly insightful documentary, but is recommended if you want a straightforward factual account of Geisel's life & work, and the archive material is extensive and would be of interest fo any Seuss enthusiast.

In this part:
- the influence of Geisel's childhood (particularly his mother) on his later work;
- anti-German sentiment in the US following the outbreak of war in 1914, which was directed particularly at German families including the Geisels;
- Geisel's time at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and his work on the college humor magazine;
- where the name 'Seuss' came from;
- his time at Oxford University, where he met his first wife, Helen;
- comments and memories from Ted Geisel's niece, agent, editor, secretary and friends.

With archive footage, including early drawings and Ted Geisel's appearance on TV program 'To Tell the Truth' in 1958.

  • Part 2?

  • @ThePixieEater Part 2 is uploaded, you just have to search the channel. It's in a different place because it was removed due to copyright infringement and I had to re-upload it with the inffringing part removed. But it is definitely there. Thanks for looking.

  • How can I get this video to play the audio on my speaker system? It plays directly from my computer speakers but not over my system.

  • Sorry you've had problems with this, but I can't help you, sorry. The upload is in mono which obviously has something to do with it, but I don't know the solution. Thanks for loooking.

  • Can you upload In Search of Dr. Suess? Please?

  • Sorry, I don't have it.

  • @vinylreality True, but as a fan of the Bard's as big as any other...

    I think we can let the inaccuracy slide:

    After all, there's no good in holding a grudge...even Prospero and the Grinch figure that one out. :)

    I grew up with Seuss,

    I grew into Shakespeare,

    I love them both, dearly--they're the reason I'm an English major, and why I want to be a writer...

    If you can affect even ONE person the way those two did, it's worth it--to affect millions, for decades or centuries...priceless. :)

  • This is ok but I liked the PBS documentary better....

  • Fuck the epic rap battles of history. I'm here because Dr. Seuss is awesome.

  • @110McKenna He also cheated on his wife and she got cancer and commit sucied. Life is just a bitch...

  • Anyone here because of epic rap battle of history? :D

  • Wait did that say he chainsmoked?! I don't want to watch any more because it could ruin my image of him forever.

  • When he was on To Tell the Truth dosn't Dr.Suess look like Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers)?
