I'm an American with a large gun collection. I'll freely admit that the AK47 is far superior to the M16 (M4). It is far more durable and easier to operate. AK is SO simple and is "accurate enough". You can buy 3 or 4 AK's for the price of one M4 and train a man to operate it, field strip it and fire it accurately in about 4 hours. It takes 5 times that long to train a man on an M4. Also I've cleared Jams (rare) on the AK and cleared Jams (frequent) on M16. The AK is MUCH easier to clear.

@maciverandy The AK-74, not the 47 I said. The AK-74 fires a round similar in size to the M16. There are sniping platforms of the AK too. The PSL and M76. The AK is a lot more accurate then you think. "the ak is more of a shoot a lot and hope you kill." That says more about the shooter then the rifle. If you're competent, you should know where all your shots go. The AK is not built to take the abuse of sustained fire like a machine gun. The barrel is too light, and cannot be changed out.

@esh325 arguably? that is just a ridiculous coment...the ar has much less of a kick due to its round being smaller than the ak...although the stopping power isn't as strong as the ak, the accuracy is far better...which is why there are several ar sniping platforms because you can shoot very accurately out to 1000 yards with the ar...the ak is more of a shoot a lot and hope you kill. the ak is a machine gun...the ar is a rifle.

@randy109 thats garbage...it's a total preference situation...i own both and the ar's accuracy and ability to stay on target is far superior...the ak is a shovel...the ar is a excavator...i can shoot 30 rounds dead on target with my ar...my ak is fairly accurate but doesn't come close to the ar

XM8 was better than the current M16/M4 and was going to replace it in 2005 but the order was cancelled and forgotten.

@rammsteinlover1337 define better? The M-16 has come along way since it's introduction. My father carried one when we went off to war and my brothers and I did too when we were called. Better is personal opinion. Mine work just fine in the field.

@randy109 Though an M4 is more of an investment. Once you get one cobbled together it is as accurate as you would ever need. With the new piston uppers that are working themselves into the M4 will greatly improve the M4 even more. The AK/M4 hybrids like the HK G5 or SIG 556 also blend the spectrum between reliability and accuracy. The introduction of the 6.5 Grendel cartridge also increases the effective terminal range of the M4. God bless America!
