Inside Afghanistan with Ben Anderson: Trailer

This series is about 24 hours in Helmand, Afghanistan's most violent province. I was with the Queen's Company, British soldiers who normally guard Buckingham Palace. Their job was to train the Afghan National Army while fighting the Taliban, an almost impossible combination. On the day this was shot, we were ambushed late in the morning, then surrounded in a small house belonging to a terrified Afghan family. The battle to get out of the house lasted eight hours. The two most senior soldiers there—both veterans of Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo and Northern Ireland—agreed that it was the most intense day they had ever experienced. I spent two months in Afghanistan, and I'm sure that what I saw in Helmand is going on in many other parts of the country. We could be there for decades.

no offense to americans, I mean I am one... so believe me I'd like to say something pro-american here.... but I think the british in general with the expection of some of the trashy subcultures in britian are more articulate and express themselves more intelligently than americans. Americans, back in the days of ww2 had more ingenuity/street smarts -- today I just think most americans are pretty stupid and don't pursue things intelligently really anymore because of a consumerist/media culture.

@fabiehm95 why thank you I think your right us american's are spoiled but not all of us are bad, and your english is perfect, here in america we don't learn other languages until like 13-15 y.o. in public schools so most of us only know one language

@fabiehm95 Keine Problem. Ich denke deine englisch ist nicht besonders schlect. Ich kann dich verstehen. Um, Ich finde die amerikanischer military sehr sympatisch aber unser politiker ist nicht besonders sympathisch.

There I attempted some german, but I think our soldier's aren't at fault every nation needs people to defend them, I think the problem is found in a consumerist/media culture and sheltered lifestyle. It's been globally attributed to America but is becoming common worldwide.

@HaveLucidDreamz the only reason americans are so well ist that they got more than enough ammo and people, believe me, if we germans had so much soldiers and equipment.... and if we allowed to do any war activities , you can imagine ;) i think the britisch and german army are the qualitiest army in world,

and that means not that all americans are bad and stupid i have alot repect for the seals and rangers ,

Its crazy how packies come on here and insult our troops and tell us to get out of Afghanistan and Iraq, when they're living in the Uk and the US..... I bet every packie whose commented to this video, saying the British and the americans are going to loose this war, are living in the UK or the US, how about you get out of our countries!!!!!

@Disaveli I'm not being harsh, I just think the British do express themselves more intelligently, that's not to say the US is worthless, or that there are no intelligent people in America, that is definitely not true-- but the genetic American is generally a lot more consumerist than intelligent. I could go into depth on what I think American values are, but intellect I've never seen make the list. Once again that's not to say cultural values alone determine a person's character.
