Roald Dahl actually saw this version, and absolutely hated it. His surviving family saw Burtons, and said that if he had seen it, he would have loved it.

Tim Burton captured the creepiness of Wonka and the factory/empire/mogul mindset, and I loved that he saw Wonka as a cross between Anna Wintour and and a completely bleached and tweeked Michael Jackson, but still... this is the one. Cheap effects, amateur child actors, and all... this is the one.
