Here's a quick jam on KanYe West's dopest beat off of Common's Be.
samples: Ahmad Jamal's Ghetto Child (Jamaica '74) and Stanley Turrentine's Papa Wings (Nightwings '77)

Listening to this tune for the first time, in 2005,I noticed that there was no bass line but that the song sounded perfectly great without it...
So, here i am, 5 years later, looping the last bars of the song and coming up with this little jam.
The opening riff is taken from Pino Palladino's bass line on Geto Heaven off of the masterpiece Common's album Like Water For Chocolate. it wasn't planned but I felt it sounded good and I realized afterwards both tunes are using the same chords, order is just inverted.

50/105 Fender flat wounds(same set since 2003) and C#F#BE tuning.

  • Don't know u but wish i did! That move at 2:22 was sick. U got a nice groove and some soul about yourself. I'm in the U.S. and it's nice to know music is universal. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. I play lead guitar a little and can hear some things in my head that would compliment. U remind me of my homeboy I used to groove with before he moved 2 NY. Keep up the good work! Peace

  • @beskepcret77 Thanks a lot for your message. That's one of my fav too with Be, Faithful and The food...I've always been jammin on records, or on loops later; the improvement you get by playing on dope beats like this one is beyond imagination :)

    Peace out.

  • what kind of bass is that and great some man

  • it's a '99 standard Sadowsky Jazz Bass (I didn't use the preamp)

    Peace.

  • Was just looking for a D'Angelo cover and never expected to find someone doing a Common song. Awesome stuff you've got going on; Common's one of my favorite artists, and Pino's one of my favorite bassists!

  • Thanks,glad you like it :D

I love Common as well and even if Like water for chocolate is still my fav,I think Be is a great record;props to KanYE who produced most of it.

    Peace.
