Christopher Hitchens makes his Bloggingheads debut in an entertaining, ego-intensive debate with Eric Alterman.

At the onset, Alterman explains that he was asked to choose a topic for the affair and decided upon: "Why Christopher has been wrong about virtually everything he's said and done since he became a conservative."

Hitchens responds, "Though It's a high price to pay, since the subject is how wrong I am, at least the subject is me, so that's something I guess."

The two discuss the Iraq war, liberalism, and Hitchens' support for Ralph Nader in 2000.

Because he didn't ENTER Iraq through territory Hussein didn't control. He spent a significant period of time in Baghdad before he went north.

The whole argument that Hussein was ignorant of Zarqawi's presence and actions is predicated on the idea that Zarqawi slipped unnoticed into the world's second most intense police state, set up terrorist training camps, then just happened to start assassinating Saddam's enemies in Kurdistan, with Saddam Hussein not knowing a thing about it.

    Riiight.

It helps when you're speaking to separate your teeth. It's just like talking with you eyes closed, it makes you look like a pompous asshole.

Just try it once, speak without moving your jaw and close your eyes and say " Well, I think everyone should own a Prius".

7:30ish and Zaqawi did go to Baghdad for medical attention when Saddam was still controlling the country, so I think Hitchens go both points on Zaqawi correct

The CIA was not as bad as we thought it might be leading up to 9/11 if we agree with new book titled '500 days" by Kurt Eichenwald. Just an example how the CIA sometimes get's it right.

For as smart as Htichesn is, he certainly seemed to see the world as black or white the held steadfast to his positions. I never really understood this about him.

Jesus people, there's more comments about the way Alterman speaks than about the substance of what these gentlemen are talking about.

Or perhaps he, like hundreds if not thousands of other people, simply has his mouth dry out easily when speaking. Sometimes people just get cotton mouth and the like while engaging in public debate and the like.

    THIS!!!

Most people's arguments opposed to the recent interventions in the GWOT actually come down to the clusterfuck argument."Well the motivations and casus bellis for the wars are morally justifiable BUT...... it's been sooooooooo long now in these wars 9 10 years, that the situations have been so FUBARD up that they're "no longer worth fighting".

It's what Thomas Paine denigrated as "summer soldiering". And it's been a problem with Americans for hundreds of years.Just look at the Copperheads!

I know it's already being commented on, but it's so annoying and fucking rude how this Alterman fool keeps slurping is drink. Why does he need so much fluid is he dehydrated or is it just a nervous reaction to his subconscious knowing he's well out of his depth sparring with Hitchens? Fucking mug.

If Alterman found smoke coming out of his ears, he should've checked to see that Hitchens was blowing it up the other side of Alterman's lap. Hitch is on the seventh year of a lying streak about Iraq here, it continued until he died in December of last year.
