"Towards the end of 1990, along with his Formula 3 rivals Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Karl Wendlinger, he joined the Mercedes junior racing programme in the World Sports-Prototype Championship. This was an unusual move for a young driver: most of Schumacher's contemporaries would instead compete in Formula 3000 on their way to Formula One. However, (manager Willi) Weber advised Schumacher that exposure to professional press conferences and driving powerful cars in long distance races would help his career."

(from Wikipedia)

In Le Mans 1991 he drove Mercedes-Benz C11 with Fritz Kreutzpointner and Karl Wendlinger and finished fifth overall.

  • When you have achieved such greatness in all forms of motorsport especially F1 you can afford to be whatever you like.

He came over as the perfect gentleman when he pretended to be The Stig on Top Gear.

Like him or hate him he will go down in history as one of the greatest racing drivers of all time.

  • I forget that Mark Webber drove for Mercedes at Le Man's in 1999, if Mark had of done a bit of DTM after that he would of had the same intro into Formula one as Michael.

  • see the good old man at work .. keep racing SCHUMI

  • what define group c?

  • 20 years of dirty driving are coming to an end

  • @innue

agreed - the lane Mike was in before he crossed over was not going to get him into that corner, so like you said he slid over to make the corner at a better angle and didn't expect about the car next to him being there. it's a rookie mistake; definitely not cheating like TheFormulaOne2 is saying.

very true; took Mikey a few years in the Ferrari before he started contending for a championship; I'm sure if he stuck with F1 he probably could win a few races, is that worth it? nah, At Le Mans, it's not about being really quick, just let the car come to you, yes, they need to dominate but driving F1 is significantly harder I think than sports cars in regards to the g's loaded. however, a sports car driver has to be out there for 4 hours. Audi + Schuey = Le Mans success!

  • @ratzinator1 u never know is ay the only reason nico was faster was cause of their not being testing schumacher is a very visual person and i say had he gotten testing session he could have developed the car alot more

  • @dojOdRiFTeR

I agree. I think his F1 days are over. Nothing more he needs to prove now. Love to see him race an Audi. German 7 time F1 champ drives a German 8 time Le Mans Overall Winning car? Can you say epic? What he has done with Benneton and Ferrari, this '91 race, and how much history Audi made for itself - putting the two together so proper! Even if he doesn't win, just showing up running great times with Kristensen, Luhr, Rocky, McNish, Bernhard in the race! That would be cool!
