This effect is probably my most realistic to date and probably the best motion tracked shot as well!

The effect was pretty simple but it took quite a lot of tweaking to get the helicopter as realistic as possible.

All the 3D work was done in 3DS Max with the help of Vray Renderer. I rendered 3 passes; normal image, shadows and ambient occlusion. I then composited it all with After Effects where I added a bit more camera shake, cc, more effect on the helicopter and few dust particle using particular.

Thanks for watching

  • @lukessummerguitar Hey, thanks for pointing that out lol! It's not really a tutorial just a little breakdown showing the different elements used to create the effect.

    Thanks for watching and commenting

  • Nice work mate. Perfect track, nice lighting, great reflections. I guess maybe adding a bit of imperfections to the heli like dirt and wearing, even the slightest bit and also some dust kick up etc. But it looks awesome as it is...

  • @DemiTroll Hey thanks for watching and the positive comment! Thanks for the suggestions, I will take them into consideration next time I work on something similar to this.

    Thanks

  • WOW!!! BRO THATS NICE

  • @JamesSimsFX

Yes, I saw that when I finally noticed it was also in the video responses LOL!...

  • @JamesSimsFX Thanks for the tips :) ill definetly use this!

  • @NO12Arts Aha! I assume you are using Stock Footage and what you are saying is that the quality of them elements is much greater than your raw footage. Well simply make the quality of your stock elements worse! You can do this by adding a bit of blur, noise, un-sharpen it a bit and mess with some colour correction. I hope this helps :). But even with my camera, I always add a tiny bit of blur to my stock elements (even if it is a value of something like 0.5)

    Thanks for watching

  • @JamesSimsFX I'm practicing, only thing is it looks weird if your camera isnt like 1080p quality and the effects you use look soo much better than your real footage. (i hope you understood that?)

  • @NO12Arts Don't be dis-heartened, just keep practicing, practice is the key to success!
