Linkin Park - Points of Authority (Early 2008 live version) (guitar)

Db Ab Db Gb Bb Eb tuning, this is the live version of Points of Authority that was played from January through March of 2008. It features the usual extended intro with Mike rapping parts of other songs over it (in this case, High Road by Fort Minor), which Brad plays little chopped-up guitar parts over. They aren't always the same, what I play here is just the way I have it in my tab, which is an example of something he might play on any given night. On this particular recording, Brad didn't play guitar at all during the second verse, so I didn't either, but when he does, the entire verse has lo-fi rather than just the first part.

Other than that, it's pretty much the same as the studio version until the ending, where there are extra "hits" at the end of the song (5 of them in this case, but there can be as many as 20), followed by a ringing 222 powerchord. Phoenix then comes in with a bass riff (sometimes Brad plays it instead as palm-muted single notes), then the whole band comes in, with Mike rapping part of There They Go by Fort Minor over the extended outro. Again, this is the January-March version, the outro riff was changed for June-August shows (I'll do a video of that sometime as well).

Just a question... is there only one studio version of this song? Because I've heard it with 2 different rap intros... the one which is same as how they played it in Live in Texas, and another one which starts like "Forfeit the game, stop the talk show..."

The second version is one of the demo versions. It's not so much a "demo" as it is an alternate mix of the album version (think Plaster/Now I See) that has different lyrics for Mike's part. That version was a downloadable track on the band's old website when they were still called Hybrid Theory.
