Also, Dutch people speak very fast.
I think this covers the basics of the Dutch accent.
Your turn to imitate it!

Bonus words to try:
My name (Sterre)
Grappig
Gezellig
Angstschreeuw

  • The rolling of the 'R' is really Dutch dialect dependent, around where I live they hardly pronounce the letter at all, it's almost an 'eh' sound. Also, in the southern parts of the Netherlands they don't pronounce the G gutturally at all ('zachte G'). But very nice video!

  • That's the problem with the G, when English or American people try to say "goed" they say it too "low". It's not that low! It's actually still in my mouth, when I say goed.

Very nice video though! It's so funny when Dutch people speak with this heavy accent, and sometimes kind of annoying. I'm dutch, and I've really worked on my English accent. :P
