How could hand-feeding your horse change your ride? This clip aims to raise awareness about some pitfalls that can occur... from challenges with canter leads, left and right turns to simply riding straight! My goal is not to stop horses getting treats! Just to help folks become aware of offering treats in a way that supports the ride desired, not the other kind.

  • 0:38 She makes good points for many folks giving treats. BUT... not in clicker trained horses.

A horse pestering for treats in clicker training is called "mugging". If you use treat rewards with a training method like clicker training, then you teach the horse to not "mug". The problem listed in this video on treats then isn't an issue. The method used to teach not to mug doesn't involve bumping with the hand, so there isn't a negative mindset for the horse involved.
