Jimmy Carter a Governor was the perfect Presidential Candidate at the perfect time Post Watergate. Because he could make the case of the Outsider.

One important, lasting AND permanent impact that Jimmy Carter has made , is that when one is running for president, he / she HAS to start at least 2 -21/2 years in ADVANCE ! ( Jimmy Carter announced in 1974, hence the nickname Jimmy Who ? ) Up until 1976, canidates for president would announce their intentions in December (1 month before), or in January, February of the election year ! It is INCONCEIVABLE today, that a serious candidate would wait that late !!

The most important decision Carter made as president was his most overlooked.
He appointed Paul Volcker as chairman of the federal reserve. Volcker restricted the money supply which stopped runaway price inflation.
Reagan reaped the benefits of Carters choice of Volcker....ironic.
