The MacGregor Chain Wheel Manipulator (CWM) is a remotely-controlled system designed specifically to perform continuous successive cycles of chain wheel installation, removal and replacement on an anchor handling/towing winch while the vessel remains at its offshore operation site, even in adverse sea conditions. The system is designed with a safe working load of 12.5 tonne and a dynamic factor of 1.5.

It allows the safe and accurate removal of a chain wheel from the winch shaft, even when the vessel is moving in a seaway. It then transports the wheel to the storage facility. Another chain wheel can then be taken from storage and transported to the winch, where it is safely guided onto the winch shaft.

The manipulator requires minimal manual input, substantially reducing the necessity for heavy manual work in wheel changing operations. It is fully remote-controlled from a portable panel, ensuring cost efficient operations and the safety of personnel and equipment.
