If you want to reduce the shines of your finish, go ahead and buff the whole stock with steel wool 0000 just like the one you show in the video and buff it just like you did in between tru oil coats, this time though instead of adding another coat of tru oil add a think film of minwax paste finishing wax wait 10 minutes and buff to a nice medium shine. You'll love it.

Good job! Just a simple suggestion for ya though. Buff that sheen down with some 0000 steel wool. It will give a really nice and beautiful matte finish.

Nice vid, great channel, been thinking about this, just haven't gotten a cheapo (non hex) one to work on that's worth a damn, shootin' wise. Love Formby's, need to get some of that...I used their Tung Oil on my WASR-10 and I love it!

@morris484 I'll be happy to help. It's not hard to do.
Thank for the video, I've done, look great, but how do you kill the smell of tru-oil finish ?

@machanna I kind of like the smell. But, it'll fade given a few weeks. Leave it out of the rifle bag and let the air get to it. Thanks for watching.

Nice video sir. I just got one for Christmas and am going to do this. Question, did you remove the barrel band retaining springs and metal around the sling holes prior to refinishing or did you just leave them in place and work around them? Thanks.

@rickdff62 Thank you rick. As far as the stock's hardware, I just left it in place. It was not difficult working around those parts at all and the sling holes cleaned up nice to show the brass. Thank you for watching.

@sky032547 After painting on the stain, which is oil based, you allow it to stand for ten or fifteen minutes. Then, using a lint free rag, wipe the piece down removing the excess stain. This leaves a nice even covering of color in the wood. do it again if it isn't dark enough. Wear gloves, it's messy work. If you just let it dry, it will look splotchy and you'll be disappointed. The stain soaks into the wood giving it the color, it's not paint, which just lies on the surface.
