Cincinnati group The Charms, featuring lead Otis Williams, first appeared on the Rockin' label in 1953 but almost immediately found themselves at King subsidiary De Luxe when that label bought out Rockin'. Their first five releases on De Luxe, including this one, are uniformly superb, after which they hit the big time with a cover of The Jewels' 'Hearts Of Stone' and began to water down their output with covers that were weaker than the originals, though many of their later recordings are still great. Making nearly forty records for De Luxe alone, the Charms were exceptionally prolific and Downbeat Magazine voted them 'R'n'B group of the year' in 1955. A number of their songs (notably 'In Paradise', 'Bye Bye Baby' and 'Who Knows') exercised a strong influence on the later harmony style of Jamaican groups such as The Blues Busters, The Jiving Juniors, The Techniques, The Gaylads and The Wailers, and the group can be credited as an important influence on ska music.
