I agree with your comment. Even though tubular bells are considered the "top of the line," I think they sound loud and clangy. Chime rods are much more suttle in my opinion.

I like the sound of chime rods, they really recriate the sound of a distant church...
The tube ones sound somewhat strident (piercing sound) to my ears..

I have actually sold this clock now. But if my memorie servers me correctly, this had a Hermle movement.
