Melinda Guzman Comments on Role of United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

SACRAMENTO OBSNews.com In Sacramento recently the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) held its 29th annual national convention and more than 3,000 people attended the convention and business expo according to General Counsel Melinda Guzman, a partner of Sacramento law firm Goldsberry, Freeman & Guzman, LLP.

With themes of economic empowerment via education and entrepreneurship resonating throughout the days of the conference many of the attendees spoke of the positive forces Hispanic business owners, and especially Latino entrepreneurs are having on the troubled American economy.

The organization's General Counsel, Melinda Guzman, highlighted the fact that Latina owned businesses are the fastest growing group of businesses in the nation and that these Hispanic women are not only helping their families and communities, but also the broader national and global economies. Guzman indicated that Latino-owned business are, "What's going right in the economy," and that, "they are the solution and part of the recovery of America's economy."

Positions ranging from attorney, to her role as a Trustee of the California State University system, and also as a Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, have provided Ms. Guzman a deep understanding of America's financial and education landscapes and the challenges facing them. It is these diverse aspects of her professional life that she credits as keys to her success as a attorney and as a Latina.

Ms. Guzman is proud to note that the training, networking, and advocacy resources offered by the USHCC are made available to hundreds of thousands of business owners via more than 250 Hispanic Chambers of Commerce across the nation. The USHCC also proudly points to the most recent five year operating history as a profitable organization.

In particular Guzman singled out Mastercard for providing innovative debit-card solutions for 'unbanked' people who traditionally have not used American banks for their financial needs, as well as the BizFest programs for young entrepreneurs as two examples of organizations in successful collaboration with the USHCC.
