It was in 1969. They did show this late in the season and in Dick Schaap's book, "The Year the Mets lost last Place", which came out in 1969 and it was about the Mets daily dairy of their first serious bid at their pennant drive in July against the Cubs and the Expos and it was mentioned it was July 11th. It was on a Friday and the Mets did get killed, 11-4 by Montreal at Shea, two days after Seaver's near perfecto.
I had read "Gil Hodges: The Quiet Man" by Marino Amoruso, 1991, he wrote about this commercial. I could see it and feel so lucky. Thank you for uploading.
I loved seeing GIl Hodges in this commercial :) Gil outmanaged Durocher in 1969. The Cubbies had an all-star lineup and momentum but Durocher's mistakes of not platooning players, especially pitchers, and not resting his team seriously wore the Cubs down. Gil was able to platoon several positions, resing up his players so they could outplay the Cubbies. If there was ever a Cubs team that should have won the pennant it was the '69 Cubs. They should have had GIl Hodges as their manager!
This commercial was taped July 11, 1969 at Shea Stadium. Taping started around 11 am and lasted several hours. Later that day, the Mets played the Expos and lost, 11-4.
@GilHodgesFan I read that Gil Hodges used to fuck Cal Koonce in his ass before all Mets home games?

I read that Koonce was going to be the pitcher sent to the showers, but he didn't have much hair to begin with, so they changed it to Gentry.

the 1969 major league baseball centennial patch is the obvious giveaway.

Plus, Nolan Ryan was traded before 1972

You're right about 1969, 'cause Gil Hodges died in 1972.
