Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word-Chapter 5

Chapter Five
Cailynn's POV Cameron got us home at around quarter past 7 because we stopped for dinner after. We got inside and our mother was at the table reading a magazine. "Hey," she said, mostly to Cameron. "Hi, Mom!" Cam said, still beaming from the concert. She smiled, but her eyes flickered with frustration. I gave my mom a two fingered wave an she ignored me. "How was the promo, you guys?" she asked, her face softening slightly. So, of course my brother sat down and told her every last detail of the concert, except for the main part that my mind had been so focused on. He didn't mention one word of Zach Porter. I was so confused on how anyone could miss a piece of information that was that amazing. My heart was thrumming and my mind was buzzing, he was everything I'd imagined and more. It almost hurt that my brother left it out. It angered me. Cam finished telling my mom about the promo and went off to his room. I sat down at the table. "Mom," I began, remembering the frustration in her eyes when we first walked in, "why can't you accept Cameron?" "Cailynn, are we really talking about this now?" she asked, sounding annoyed. "Yeah, we are." My mom put down the paper and looked me straight in the eye. "Part of the reason why your dad and I got a divorce was because he could take Cameron for who he was. I'm having a hard time now, but, as always, I support him in whatever he chooses. Plus, with what went on between Cam and Tanner, I just can't bear for my only son to be put through so much pain." Oh, that's right. Last summer, a boy named Tanner went out with my brother. Tanner did it just to get popular in school, even if it meant getting bullied. Then, when he was satisfied, he dumped Cameron. Turns out he wasn't even gay, and Cam was devastated. So devastated, he began cutting himself. He had loved Tanner. "Yeah, alright Mom," I said, trying to rid the memories from my mind. I stood up from the table and walked upstairs to Cam's room. I knocked. "Mhm," he said, and I walked in to see him with his red bass. He looked away from me back down to his fingers on the strings. He was still humming one of the songs from the concert. "What are you doing?" I asked, sitting down on his bed beside him. "Oh, nothing. Just trying to figure out one of the songs." I nodded, but didn't say anything. Cam looked at me and said, "I'm gonna talk to Zach," I cocked my head, "to see if I can get in." "What?" I asked quickly. "I want to be a part of the Outerspace Politicians," he replied, and I knew he had his mind set. I didn't care, though. "Cameron, I don't think that's a good idea." "Why not?" he asked, "You saw that they could've used an extra player. I could cover bass, and Tom could move to keyboard, and then-" I cut him off, saying, "Don't try and tell me that the only reason why you want to join is because you want to play bass," I said, and Cameron hesistated, looking at the ground. "I want to be a part of something official. I'm sick of just playing in my room all for nothing. And..." Cam trailed off, "...I want to get to know Zach." My jaw dropped. "You're kidding," I said, knowing he wasn't. He shook his head. "You like him, don't you?" I asked, even though it wasn't a question. "Yeah, I do," Cameron replied softly, turning to look at me. His green eyes looked scared, and I felt bad. I hugged him, whispering, "Ok" in his ear and left the room. I ran to my own room, slamming the door behind me. I flopped down on my bed. Everything that was going on overwhelmed my mind, clouding my vision. I closed my eyes, thinking that it would help, but I was mistaken. I saw the visions of Zach, that image Cameron's confusion, and my mother's sadness. I just couldn't take any of it. I shut off the lights and quickly fell asleep.
