George Cohen MBE
July 30 1966. On that day, George Cohen gained sporting immortality by helping England to win the World Cup Final. Manager Alf Ramsey called him Englands greatest full-back and Georgie Best said Cohen was the best defender he ever played against. After Englands magnificent 4-2 victory over West Germany, it is fair to say George Cohen could have played for any team in the world, but he preferred to stay loyal to Fulham, the club he joined as a teenager. He played for the club over 450 times in a career spanning 13 years. During that time he won 37 caps for his country. After retiring, George worked as a football coach and manager. He is now an excellent public speaker and is happy to share his memories of that magical day in 66 when he joined the World Cup elite. George is also a very popular member of Fulhams matchday hospitality team at Craven Cottage.
