Actually, the french quit bulding the canal in 1886' also the before the americans could go into panama the had to sign the Hay-Bunau varilla treaty with Panama not colombia...the "revolution" i think you are talking about is the thousand day civil war between the "conservadores and liberales" that was fought thru out colombia (at the moment panama was still part of it) panama got tired of been part of colombia and got its independence on Nov 3 1903 :D
