I disagree. The rawness, the honest, novel, imaginative approach to this classic folk song is what makes it a masterpiece. Yes, it could be 'produced', 'tidied up', etc etc. But, as it stands, the musical beauty is clear.
Well done Trees, a band that never received the recognition they deserved.

One of the most under rated band ever, its really a shame they didn't have more albums. There style is sick, I think its very much origional

Somewhere ther is the BBC session, after violonist was added.
But, if you have On the Shore and In the Garden of Jane Delawnety, you need nothing else.
On the Shore rivals Unhalfbricking and Lieg and Lief. All three LPs are brilliant.

Wow!! That raw blues guitar and drums coming in and those fantastic vocals. A tradtional folk song re-invented. Brilliant.

I couldn't agree with you more, Zensho1. Well said!

Just seen this post! any info you have on Trees would be appreciated.
I have had the 2 albums on vinyl since they first came out & now on CD, but would appreciate anything else that may be out there.

much as I am very into trees and grew up on them, etc I prefer judy collins version on who knows where the time grows with its haunting ethereal feel and great sonic textures. but, please dont stop putting on stuff like trees, eclection, incredible string band and other good people

Absolutely ~ that 'rawness' adds something to the emotions of the song.
I first heard the version by Sandy Denny, which is much more 'polished' {and I love it}, but this one is different in a good way, with slight alterations in the lyrics, and a more 'Americanised' feel to the music...
this isnt on the original lp? i own a copy but i recognize it like i heard it all before..?

@TuneDrop No, it's an unreleased demo they added onto the CD re-issue.
However, the song was recorded by Sandy Denny in the late 60s, and was on a few of her compilation albums.
