Arunachaleswarar temple is located at the foot of Annamalai hill.The very hill is regarded as the form of Siva and people circumambulate the hill barefoot which covers a distance of about 14kms. On Kaarthigai deepam day, lakhs of people visit the temple to see the huge lamp lit with 3 tons of ghee on the top of the hill at about 2600 ft height. The lamp symbolises the existence of Siva in the form of fire/light. The place is called Agni Shethram.
