The 1st Annual Vancouver Island Rookie Roller Derby Tournament is taking place at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. It will host six Rookie Roller Derby teams from across Vancouver Island and the mainland. Presented by Nanaimo Nemesis Roller Girls & Culture Craze. On July 2nd there will be four preliminary bouts, and on July 3rd the final bouts to determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The first place team will win a $1000 Grand Prize and the second place team will win $500! Both days also feature many vendors, a beer garden, and a half time show with live music. On July2nd hear Nanaimo's own Foreign Influence. The Vancouver based band KROME will perform on July 3rd.

At 10 a.m. on July 2nd & 3rd patrons can line up for admittance. Doors open at 10:30. The ticket holders line-up will be admitted first. Rush seating only, and you may drop in and leave as you please throughout the day. Tickets are on sale in advance for the discounted cost of $12/single day or $20 for a two day pass only at the Port Theatre. The Nanaimo Nemesis Roller Girls are proud to support The United Way Central and Northern Vancouver Island.
