  • tell me something...were you classically trained or not?

  • Sure, but does it really matter?

  • not really,I was just curious as too how you got to that level of finger dexterity(through vigorous scales, classical etudes, etc.)? Anyway great job! And do you have any advice on what to practice to really work out ur fingers.

  • Alkan

  • DAMN son! When I saw the title I thought someone was on a HUGE ego trip!

I was shocked when you actually started playing. It wasn't Tatum but nobody really expects that.

You've just inspired me to aim high. I've always been content to be able to play "hard" songs... Never attempted to play anything "impossible" ... and that definition of "impossible" was before I heard Tatum's music.

    Keep up the good work.

  • @pianolicious134 He said he playing pieces by Alkan help get a technique like that. Alkan is a classical composer!

  • With this skill, you could probably conquer (as a classically-trained pianist) perhaps all of Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Alkan, Chopin, Mozart, all their hardest pieces.

What can I have to say to this...wow.

  • Do you have a score or was it by ear?

  • This is what you show to your snobby classical friends who say jazz pianists have inferior technique. Assholes.

  • bonjour chrisjordan . very good.

  • faak!

  • nice

  • you are truly blessed~I just finished reading an auto biography Art Tatum last month. Another one of my faves is Billy Taylor and Teddy Wilson~I understand what you're speaking of as far as the classical saga, I've been playing classical for about 11 years and now teaching myself to play jazz (something new for me!)~I'd love to one day play some Teddy Wilson/Billy Taylor compositions~
