Just like in Tarkovsky`s "Stalker" in this remarkable movie of Win Wenders we can see a "thin line" between sound and picture, and thats is what I love.
Enjoy

Many years ago I studied at those tables in the Staatsbibliothek. I used to feel in a library the way I feel as I watch this beautiful scene.

I wonder... as much as I love the internet, if we will lose something very important that once lived in our libraries, lose the whispered spirit of knowledge that used to speak to us all among these books.

Possibly the greatest scene ever made.

I don't know why I love this. It's only the second time of my life I've seen this and it changed my life.

My taste for totalitarian brutalist architecture, movies, communism... white black expressionism ksdnkisa I love this. Unifomization, so unappealing yet so appealing to watch

I was in a performance of this, at Newcastle Playhouse, in 2004. This brings back some GREAT memories!!

When I studied at the Staatsbibliothek, it was just off of an overgrown field that had once been Potsdamer Platz, those big, white signs that demarcated the change in sectors were just down the street, and the wall loomed in abandoned fields beyond the signs. Knowledge whispered among the books, and large stories lurked just beyond the library windows. I always looked at my college library very differently after that, and with good memories, too.

I remember seeing this when it came out over 20 years ago. This scence in particular is so moving. The space, the sound, and the hidden presence of others - absolutely mesmerizing! Filmmaking at its best.

I was at university in NZ in 1989 and this film hit me like a shot to the heart. I used to go to the AV centre at school and watch it again and again. Now I know i was not alone....

Kermode was reviewing Warhorse today and it raised the question of films that make you cry. There are many scenes in this film that make me well up but this is probably the premier. I can't help it. Touches the emotions.

Is it odd that when I read Nineteen eighty-four I picture of Bruno Ganz

    as Winston.
