@lazaris11 He means the truth is worse. Example, pointing out the shortcomings of another person, that are true, but said for no reason than to cause them pain is far worse than making something up about them - at least when it's made up the person can shrug it off and say, "well, it's not true, so whatever."

By "a truth that's told with ill intent beats all the lies you could invent." does he mean it's worse because of the ill intent or it's still better despite the ill intent because it's the truth?
