  • Was this at San Diego Airport or Intl?

  • @OREUS39 You're welcome! This is an interesting plane--I've seen the original at the Smithsonian, back in the '80s. How Lindbergh flew such an unstable aircraft on course for 3600 miles is beyond me; he must have been absolutely exhausted by the time he got to Paris--he'd been awake for almost 60 hours by then--he couldn't sleep the night before takeoff!

  • @galoon Wow! Thanks for the info!

  • @OREUS39 Lindbergh found that he couldn't quite land with the periscope alone. Typically what he did was sideslip the plane down while keeping his eye on the runway out of one of the side windows; then he'd straighten the plane out just before touchdown. Lindbergh was the genuine article!

  • That's the replica of it?! And it's in a museum?!?!?!?!

  • Jjj

  • @OREUS39 He stuck his head out the window or looked through the periscope.

  • @OREUS39 There is a "periscope" mounted inside the dash for 12 o'clock viewing.
